The Classic Cotswolds loop walking break takes in the best villages and towns the area has to offer and starts and finishes in the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, which has easy rail access to London Paddington. Villages and towns you will visit include Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, The Slaughters, Naunton. Broadway, Winchcombe and Bourton-on-the-Water. This break lasts for 9 nights/10 days with 8 walking days of around 7 miles per day.

The break also has the option of a shorter itinerary

Short Itinerary– 6 days/5 nights with four full walking days of around 12 miles per day

This self-guided holiday includes 9 nights standard accommodation with breakfast, baggage transfers between villages, tour folder with route notes and maps.

The cost of this break is £999 per person based on two people sharing a double/twin room. For solo travellers and those wanting a single room a supplement applies.

Day 1Arrival in Moreton-in-Marsh

Arrive in Moreton-in-Marsh by train from London, check-in to hotel and spend the rest of your day exploring this historic village. Wander around the ancient streets, visit the market and maybe stop in for a pint at JRR Tolkiens old drinking den, The Bell Inn.

Overnight- Moreton-in-Marsh

Day 2Moreton-in-Marsh to Stow-on-the-Wold– (7 miles/11 km)

Following the Monarchs Way and passing the pretty villages of Longborough, Donnington and Broadwell before arriving in the medieval market town of Stow-on-the-Wold.

Overnight- Stow-on-the-Wold

Day 3Stow-on-the-Wold to Bourton-on-the-Water– (5.5 miles/8.5km)

Stow-on-the-Wold to Bourton-on-the-Water– (5.5 miles/8.5km)- Todays walk will take you through pretty countryside and passing through the stunning village of Lower Slaughter before arriving at Bourton-on-the-Water, the Venice of the Cotswolds.

Overnight- Bourton-on-the-Water

Day 4Bourton-on-the-Water to Guiting Power- (6 miles/9.5km)

Following the Wardens way and passing the pretty villages of Naunton and Upper Slaughter.

Overnight- Guiting Power

Day 5Guiting Power to Winchcombe- (6 miles/9.5km)

Once again following the Wardens way and passing through Guiting Wood and the grounds of Sudeley Castle before arriving at the medieval town of Winchcombe.

Day 6Winchcombe to Stanton- (8 miles/12.5km)

Winchcombe to Stanton- (8 miles/12.5km)- nice walk along the Cotswold way with options to visit the ruins Hailes Abbey and Stanway House.

Day 7Stanton to Broadway- (5 miles/8 km)

Stanton to Broadway- (5 miles/8 km)- again following the Cotswold way up past the old hill fort at Shenberrow Hill and on into Broadway village

Overnight- Broadway

Day 8Broadway to Chipping Campden– (5 miles/8 km)

Passing two of the best viewpoints in the Cotswolds, Broadway Tower and Dovers Hill.

Day 9Chipping Campden to Moreton-in-Marsh- (7 miles/ 11km)

Following the Monarchs way and passing the stunning villages of Broad Campden and Blockley.

Accommodation

This break includes 9 nights standard bed and breakfast accommodation staying in quality inns and bed and breakfasts.  All accommodation is carefully hand-picked and you will have a private bathroom and full english breakfast provided each morning. Double and twin (two single beds) rooms both available. 

Accomodation is extremely limited in some villages and we will try our best to keep the distance from the trail to your lodgings to less than one mile. If the distance is further than this then we will arrange transfers for you.

Accommodation upgrades are available in some villages- please let us know if you wish to upgrade.

For those wanting a single room (i.e not shared) or those travelling alone a supplement applies.

What about my luggage?

This break includes luggage transfer(s) between lodgings, so you only need to worry about your day pack when you are moving accommodation. Each break includes luggage transfers for one large suitcase per person. You need to leave it in reception on the morning you are moving villages and it will arrive at your destination by late afternoon.

What about solo travellers and those requiring their own room?

Solo travellers are welcome on this tour and a supplement applies to cover the cost of solo occupancy of a double/twin room. A supplement also applies to those requiring their own room.

Am I fit enough?

We offer a variety of itineraries to suit people all fitness levels and most of our breaks can be achieved by anyone with a decent overall level of fitness. If you are unsure you are fit enough or do not currently exercise we recommend engaging in regular physical activity for a few months prior to the holiday. When is the best time of year to go?

You can go any time of year but we recommend March to October as the best time of year for outdoor activities in the Cotswolds.

What should I bring?

We will provide you with a detailed pre-tour folder which includes a packing list but as a guide: layered walking wear, waterproof jacket and trousers, comfortable walking shoes, warm jacket.

The tour starts and finishes in Moreton-in-Marsh, which has a direct train link with London Paddington.
