The Cotswold Way National Trail starts in the beautiful market town of Chipping Campden and runs along the western edge of the Cotswolds for 102 miles south down to the Georgian city of Bath. Along the way you will pass through quintessentially english countryside, honey-coloured stone villages, ancient woodlands and market towns.

This Cotswolds Way walking holiday lasts for 10 nights/11 days and you will have 9 full days of walking with distances of 8.5-15 miles per day, with an average of 11 miles per day, making the pace moderate/demanding.  See itinerary tab for details.

This self-guided walking holiday includes 10 nights standard accommodation with breakfast, baggage transfers between villages, tour folder with guide book and maps/route notes

The cost of this break is £1099 per person based on two people sharing a double/twin room. For solo travellers and those wanting a single room a supplement applies.

Day 1Arrival in Chipping Campden

Arrive in Chipping Campden, a short taxi ride away from Moreton-in-Marsh train station. Check in to hotel and spend the rest of your day exploring this historic town. Wander around the ancient streets, visit the market hall and the fabulous church of St James and maybe stop in for a pint at one of its many historic public houses.

Day 2Chipping Campden to Wood Stanway (12.5 miles/20.1 km)

Walk from Chipping Campden to Wood Stanway up and over the escarpment with great views over the Vale of Evesham and via the village of Broadway.

Day 3Wood Stanway to Cleeve Hill (11.5 miles/18.5 km)

Today you walk from Wood Stanway to Cleeve Hill via Winchcombe and the ancient burial chamber, Belas Knap. You will also pass through the grounds of Sudeley Castle, former home of Catherine Parr.

Overnight- Cleeve Hill

Day 4Cleeve Hill to Birdlip (15.5 miles/25 km)

Today you walk from Cleeve Hill to the village of Birdlip getting nice views over towards Cheltenham before dropping down to Dowdeswell Reservoir and Seven Springs and up over Crickley Hill.

Day 5Birdlip to Painswick (7 miles/11.2 km)

Todays walk from Birdlip to Painswick passes by Witcombe Roman Villa and Coopers Hill, the site of the infamous Cheese Rolling Contest.

Day 6Painswick to Kings Stanley (9 miles/14.4 km)

A nice walk from Painswick to Kings Stanley and offering amazing views over the Severn Valley at Haresfield Beacon.

Day 7King's Stanley to Wotton-under-Edge (15 miles/24.1 km)

Today you will walk from Kings Stanley to Wotton-Under-Edge-under-Edge via Dursley, Stinchcombe Hill and The iconic Tynedale Monument.

Day 8Wotton-Under-Edge to Old Sodbury (13 miles/20.8 km)

Walk to Old Sodbury via the villages of Alderley, Hillesley and Hawkesbury.

Day 9Old Sodbury to Cold Ashton (8.5 miles/13.6 km)

This is your penultimate days walking and takes you to Cold Ashton via Tormarton and Dyrham Park.

Day 10Cold Ashton to Bath (10 miles/16km)

Another shorter walk from Cold Ashton into the Roman city of Bath famous for the Abbey, Royal Crescent and Roman Baths.

Depart from Bath after breakfast


This break includes 10 nights standard bed and breakfast accommodation staying in quality inns and bed and breakfasts.  All accommodation is carefully hand-picked and you will have a private bathroom and full english breakfast provided each morning. Double and twin (two single beds) rooms both available. 

Accomodation is extremely limited in some villages and we will try our best to keep the distance from the trail to your lodgings to less than one mile. If the distance is further than this then we will arrange transfers for you.

Accommodation upgrades are available in some villages- please let us know if you wish to upgrade.

For those wanting a single room (i.e not shared) or those travelling alone a supplement applies.



What about my luggage?

This break includes luggage transfer(s) between lodgings, so you only need to worry about your day pack when you are moving accommodation. Each break includes luggage transfers for one large suitcase per person. You need to leave it in reception on the morning you are moving villages and it will arrive at your destination by late afternoon.

What about solo travellers and those requiring their own room?

Solo travellers are welcome on this tour and a supplement applies to cover the cost of solo occupancy of a double/twin room. A supplement also applies to those requiring their own room.

Am I fit enough?

This break covers the Cotswold Way in 9 walking days with distances of between 8-15 miles per day. It is aimed at moderate walkers. When is the best time of year to go?

You can go any time of year but we recommend March to October as the best time of year for outdoor activities in the Cotswolds.

What should I bring?

We will provide you with a detailed pre-tour folder which includes a packing list but as a guide: layered walking wear, waterproof jacket and trousers, comfortable walking shoes, warm jacket.

How do i get to the start of the tour?

The tour starts in Chipping Campden, which is a short taxi/bus ride from Moreton-in-Marsh. Moreton-in-Marsh has a direct train link with London Paddington. The break ends in Bath, which has good transport links with London, Heathhow and the rest of the UK.

Will I be given an orientation?

At the time of booking you will be given the option to pay extra to have a brief meeting (20-30 min) with a company representative who will talk you through the specific walking routes and answer any questions you may have.
